Established July 2010
The Front Yard Theatre Collective is an improv and sketch comedy theater group, founded in a front yard (started in a front yard, now we here!)
Every two weeks, a group of theater enthusiasts would experiment with short form improv games and open mics, and this small gathering grew into a monthly show at The Garret, one of the most popular clubs in Downtown Miami. The FYTC’s original skits, musical guests, and surprising improv games united to produce some of the most innovative entertainment in Miami. Once they lost their home to real estate developers, it led to the next phase: the FYTC took to the streets!
In 2013 they invented bicycle theater and produced “Alice in Wynwoodland” and in 2014 “History on Wheels”, both set throughout Downtown Miami and Wynwood, with audience members riding as a group on bicycles from scene to scene.
Thanks to grants and collaborations with the Downtown Development Authority and downtown neighbors, in 2015 the Front Yard Theatre created a theatrical pub crawl called "Schmooze Over Miami". Audiences were guided on a tour of downtown's best bars, where they enjoyed pop up performances and booze!
The FYTC has been the resident theater company at the historic Olympia Theater since 2016 - producing their now famous monthly variety show "In the Lobby Lounge...ETC!" where they bring their signature comedy acts, sketches, burlesque and music for a one of a kind, free, monthly variety revue!
For our family friendly entertainment, we activate the streets of the monthly Food Truck Fest in Miami Beach. The last Thursdays of every month, we are next to the North Beach Bandshell with music, jugglers, magicians, stilt walkers, unicycles, face paint and more!
Front Yard Theatre keeps growing and through collaborations with other Miami based community outreach groups, aims to bring the community together and revitalize the cultural life of our city via art, theater and our love for the 305.
